Kids are alright for Selby RUFC

SELBY RUFC’S decision to place faith in its youth policy is a key factor in the club’s success, according to director Nick Wright.

The Sandhill Lane club are second in the Yorkshire Two league table having won their last five games.

Wright says an ambition of the club’s is being realised by having so many youngsters in the first team.

He said: “The growth of our club is done through the hard effort and amount of time people put into it.

“Around four years ago we decided to focus on youth and that’s now bearing fruition with the amount we’ve got in the current first-team.”

“We’ve had as many as nine in the first XV recently, and our average age is now mid-20s whereas five years ago it was nearer to the 30 mark.”

Last Saturday the club saw off Roundhegians with a 33-21 win.
