Dream start from the real McCoy!

Selby 2nd XV......... 46

Old Brodleians...... 21

After a dream start by Yorkshire U18 player Charlie McCoy, who scored in the first minute, Selby’s second string ran out comfortable winners of this Championship Merit Table fixture.

It was an impressive display against a much bigger outfit with their forwards holding the upper hand throughout and their backs playing some exciting running rugby.

McCoy, recently called up for the North of England trials, sprinted 50 metres for the opener after spotting a gap and later added a second as he finished a great move also involving Rich Topping and skipper Kevin Lamb.

After their initial setback, however, Brodleians came back strongly to take the lead, but their only other tries came in the last minute of each half as they paid dearly for having two players sin-binned.

Robert Bourke and Mark Tanner both touched down after successful catch-and-drives, with scrumhalf Chris McHale also scurrying over for a try on the blindside.

Matthew Torn contributed as many points as the opposition by converting two of his own tries while also adding a penalty and two further conversions.

Meanwhile Selby U8s were pipped by a single try when arch-rivals Goole made their presence felt at Sandhill Lane, Josh Priestley scoring a hat-trick as the visitors won 7-6.

And although Priestley repeated his heroics in a second game, the young Swans upped the ante with four consecutive tries as they bounced back to win 9-5.
