Doncaster Knights: Clive will keep Knights fighting

Not giving up: Clive Griffiths

Not giving up: Clive Griffiths

CLIVE Griffiths described the Knights’ 14-9 defeat to fellow strugglers London Scottish as ‘soul destroying’ but pledged to keep fighting to the end.

A losing bonus point edged Doncaster to five points from safety but used up their remaining game in hand in the process.

Perhaps more worrying for Griffiths was the manner of the performance, littered with errors he has worked to erase since his arrival.

“That is soul destroying having to watch something like that,” he said. “Either as a supporter or as someone who has watched them work so well in training.

“We gave the game away, we dropped the ball too many times yet again. We were in a fantastic position at 9-6 up with a five metre lineout and we gave it away. Then we messed around with it in the middle of the field and they scored their try from it.

“It’s a sorry sight to see when you have so many opportunities and you just spurn them.”

The Knights have nine games left to secure survival and face a tough trip to Cornish Pirates on Sunday.

Though the task at hand is growing increasingly difficult, Griffiths insists it can still be done.

He said: “I’ve still got the fight for this job. It’s a tough job to get us out of this mess but we’ll never give up until it’s mathematically impossible for us to survive.

“I’ve tried a lot of different permutations since I’ve been here and I’ll have to go back to the drawing board again.”
