Doncaster Knights ace out of Titans clash

DONCASTER Knights will be without scrum-half Louis Silver in Saturday’s Championship derby against Rotherham at Clifton Lane.

Silver, who has got the nod over former skipper and ex-Rotherham No 9 Chris Hallam in recent weeks, faces several weeks on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury in Friday’s 24-16 win over Moseley at Castle Park.

“The half-backs had been playing well before Louis went off after about 20 minutes,” said Knights boss Brett Davey.

Although relieved to see his side win for the first time this season in the league, Davey told The Star that there is still room for improvement.

“I thought our first half performance was very good,” he said. “Wing Tyson Lewis, who wouldn’t have played had Dan Smith being fit, had a point to prove (after being left out of the starting line-up in the previous two games) and he certainly proved it with two good tries.

“We came in at 21-6 and we said the right things, but for whatever reason we just allowed them to build up pressure.

“We only had three or four attacking opportunities and we didn’t get any rhythm in the second half; we just gave the ball and we had to defend for 40 minutes.”

The Welshman will praise the team’s work in the lineouts and scrums when he reviews Friday’s game at today’s training session.

“That is something that head coach Glen Kenworthy has been working on. We have been on an upward curve in the last three or four weeks apart from the game at Leeds when we were disrupted by having Adam Kettle sent-off in the first half,” he said.

The flanker was one of three Doncaster players sin-binned in the second half on Friday: “We aren’t going to win many rugby games if we play with only 14 men for 30 minutes and I will be stressing that to the players.”
