Try flurry as Bear cubs finish on top
Alex Oliver proved almost impossible to contain with his power and pace as he scored four tries for Sherburn Bears U7s in their final game of the season, writes Matt Orford.
As they finished in the same way they started it – with a match against Kippax Welfare – both teams demonstrated how they have made massive progress in their first season of rugby league.
And as with the first meeting, Bears finished on top – just – after being pushed all the way by a compact and hard-working side.
Backing up Alex were Euan Mills-Hughes with a hat-trick of tries and tough-tackling James Kilgar, who weighed in with an excellent brace.
And there were superb drives from Stanley Wilkes, George Beal, Connor Jackson and opposition player of the match Neave Romans.
Jackson was named as the club’s most improved, with Mills-Hughes as top tackler and man of the match going to Jake Wilkinson who rode several small injuries to record one of his best-ever games for Bears.
Thanks to all players for a fantastic season and to parents for giving up their time to help out.
Details of the end-of-season presentation and Christmas Party will be released soon.
