Doncaster Dons: We must smarten up - Tony Miller
THE Dons will have to be ‘smarter’ to survive in the Championship according to head coach Tony Miller.
Doncaster opened their campaign following promotion with a 22-16 defeat at home to Dewsbury Rams on Sunday.
Miller was disappointed with his side’s decision making in key areas and insists they will have to maintain their composure better in the future.
He said: “I was disappointed with our ball control.
“You’re asking too much to try and get a win with what we did with the ball.
“We just weren’t smart enough.
“I thought we panicked and tried to go down the blind side too many times when it was the wrong decision. It’s something we need to work on.
“We looked dangerous at times when we built pressure but we gave the ball away too much.
“We never got chance to ask enough questions in vital areas,” Miller added.
“But saying that, we could easily have got something out of the game towards the end.”
The Dons were denied potential score-equalling points in the dying moments when Liam Kay went over, only to be pulled back for a forward pass.
Miller said: “I can’t for the life of me see where he got a forward pass from, especially with the linesman stood a metre away and not giving it.
“I was disappointed with a couple of calls but I’m sure they’ll even out over the season.
“I thought if we’d have scored that and got the draw it would’ve been a fair result because there was nothing between us.
“Aaron Brown was the difference between the two sides for Dewsbury but other than that you couldn’t pick anything between them.”
The Dons travel to fellow-promoted side Barrow on Sunday.
