DONCASTER DONS: ‘Banned’ Shaun Leaf back with Dons

FORMER skipper Shaun Leaf has been added to Doncaster Rugby League Club’s 2013 squad after being banned by the Rugby Football League 18 months ago in a betting scandal.

Leaf was axed by the Keepmoat Stadium club after a national newspaper exposed the fact that he had bet against the Dons in several games including a high-profile Challenge Cup tie against Wakefield Trinity in 2011.

Even though the Humberside-based PE teacher was injured and didn’t play in the game he still broke strict RFL rules on betting on matches involving a team he was involved with. He was cleared of trying to influence the result of the games involved,

The centre, who is now available after serving his 18-month ban, reported back for the club’s first pre-season training session last night.
