Bears continue to bounce back with second successive win
Sherburn Bears RL captain Martin Leahy.
Sherburn won their second game on the bounce following a 22-10 win over lowly Rodley Rockets.
Despite Rodley being second from bottom in the table, the Leeds outfit provided one of the toughest challenges for the Bears at Eversley Park in this season’s Pennine ARL Division Six.
The visitors controlled the middle of the park for long periods, making the better start as their fleet-footed full back crashed over in the corner, without conversion.
Rodley’s lead was short-lived as the Bears struck back through Bryn Watson and captain Martin Leahy added the extras.
The Bears began to speed up their play and when Ben Pugh was released down the touchline, he opted to chip the ball inside for the supporting Sam Booth who hacked the kick on before diving over the line to score a great try. Leahy converted for a 12-4 lead.
Leahy then jinked through a gap to score another well-worked try, adding the conversion.
Rodley were by no means out of the race and continued to give the Bears a severe test, however Sherburn scored another through prop Martin Jackson, without conversion.
The Rockets struck back, scoring an excellent try of their own, with the conversion for 22-10.
Sherburn are at home on Saturday against Keighley’s Worth Village. Kick-off is 2.30pm.
