Podium finish to season for Porsche driver

Racing driver Richard Ellis closed his Porsche Club GB Championship season in fine style at Silverstone with another podium finish, writes Paul Holroyd.
Driving a Porsche 996 C2 (right) for the Leeds-based Strasse Motorsport team, the Selby businessman secured third place after a faultless race.
Having also clinched overall victory at Donington in June, Richard once more led the way for his four-man team and his podium place came in the first of three races. Pushing his car to the limits, he was unable to close the gap on the leading pair, but was a comfortable seven seconds ahead of the fourth-placed driver.
In race two, however, he was forced to limp home in sixth place as a result of losing power with engine trouble, which ruled him out of the final event which saw team-mates Chris Dyer, Paul Ward and David Botterill all placed well.
Of his first race, Richard said: “We all managed to go through the first few corners together and I spent the first few laps fending off drivers behind me. The leading two cars just pulled away from me, so I had to forget about them and concentrate on keeping third spot.”
But he spoke of his disappointment after the second race. “I was making good progress on new tyres and looking strong for third while having good fun tussling with the Boxsters, but then the car started losing power and having major problems with the engine. But all in all it was an enjoyable weekend to finish the season off.”
It’s been a roller-coaster season for the team, having to swap and change weights and set-ups on all four cars due to the fluctuating regulations.
