Weathering the storm
WHAT a start to the jumps season…
Horrendous weather conditions have played havoc with the fixture lists of racecourses up and down the country, with many courses falling to the wet weather, their ground simply unable to take the heavy rain that has fallen so quickly.
Neighbouring course Southwell, where I am also clerk of the course, has been badly hit by the heavy rain recently.
We were forced to abandon Monday and Tuesday’s fixtures on Sunday, after conditions following two days of relentless rain over the weekend left it quite clear that we’d be unable to race.
The car park was left covered by two foot of water and parts of the track and stable yard are underwater too.
However, yesterday’s fixture will still take place, having been transferred to Wolverhampton Racecourse, being an all-weather track.
Closer to home, we’re keeping an eye on the track at Doncaster.
We have a top-class track here, and one that is able to take all but the heaviest rain – which of course, is what we have had over the past few days.
With the worst of the rain now cleared, we should have a great day of racing on our hands tomorrow, as the National Hunt season gets underway at Town Moor.
We have a strong field of runners and riders ready to take their place at the line-up, all hoping to get their jumps season off to a flying start with a win here at Town Moor.
There are seven races due to take place across the day, with the first getting underway at 12:20pm and the final line up of the day getting off at 3:35pm.
Always a popular fixture with punters, the raceday will close off November’s action, ahead of our two festive racedays, the Christmas National Hunt meeting on December 15 and the New Year meeting on December 29.
Both racedays prove popular with punters looking for entertainment during the party season, so we expect to see a big crowd.
