Doncaster boom time as Town Moor becomes busiest turf course

DONCASTER Racecourse is gearing up to be the busiest single course turf track in the country next year, with a packed 2013 fixture list confirmed.

Town Moor will host 35 fixtures in 2013, making it the busiest single track in the UK. In addition to more meetings, the 2013 fixture list sees a change to one of the most popular race meetings of the racecourse’s calendar, with the William Hill Lincoln – the official start of the flat season – moving from a Saturday and Sunday to Friday and Saturday.

The increased fixture list and the move of the Lincoln is something that managing director Mark Spincer believes will help produce another great year for the course.

He said: “It’s always very exciting to have our fixture list confirmed, and for it to include so many meetings is fantastic, and a real vote of confidence in Doncaster Racecourse, and our groundstaff, who do a brilliant job of ensuring that the course is in the best possible condition for every race that is run here.

“The move of the William Hill Lincoln to Friday and Saturday is something we are particularly excited about. It is always a hugely popular meeting, but we expect that the weekday launch will make it more attractive for corporate guests, so it should be a great occasion.”

The 2012 season has been a successful one for Doncaster, with September’s Ladbrokes St Leger Festival exceeding targets by attracting more than 60,000 racegoers across the four days.

Mr Spincer added: “2012 to date has been a fantastic year. “And we’ve not stopped yet, with the Racing Post Trophy coming up at the end of this week.”
