Hockey heroes reap just rewards
HOCKEY AWARD: Barlby High School hockey star Zoe Searson with her award certificate.
Hockey heroes got their just rewards when the Selby Ladies RSSC Club held their first-ever presentation evening involving both juniors and adults, writes Charles Gardner.
And Barlby High School student Zoe Searson (pictured) has also been making her mark on the field.
The Year 9 pupil picked up the ‘clubman of the season’ award for the U14 Girls’ B team at the City of York Hockey Club youth presentation in recognition of her outstanding contribution.
Zoe was put forward for North Yorkshire hockey training by PE teacher Miss Kerry Rafton in Year 7 and subsequently joined the York club where she has just completed her second season.
Mum Alison said: “I am very proud that Zoe has been given this award as it is for more than just playing sport; it recognises her commitment and flexibility within the club. She trains regularly and does anything asked of her, even to playing in goal!”
In September she will start training with the U16 girls.
Meanwhile Charlie Lidstone-Scott headed up the awards list for the Selby Hockey Club when she was named as league player and shared players’ player with Megan Birch.
Franii Brooks was manager’s player and Kelly Cauley top goal-scorer.
In the U16 section Olivia Scott was players’ player and Ellie Appleton manager’s player while Emily Quantrell was named U12 section players’ player and Bethaney Smith manager’s player.
Club captain Kelly Cauley said: “After all the awards had been presented, everyone enjoyed a well-earned buffet and disco and a great time was had by all. Thanks to all the players for their commitment throughout the season.”
