SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY: Julian back at Hillsborough after injury blow

JULIAN Bennett has become the second Wednesday player this season to have a loan spell rocked by injury.

The left-back has returned to Hillsborough from Shrewbury after suffering a back injury - after Giles Coke’s spell at Swindon was curtailed a few weeks ago by a foot problem.

Bennett’s initial month on loan on expires this weekend and the Shrews had been pondering the possibility of extending it.

But the left-back missed last week’s game against Oldham, the Shrews have no game tomorrow and boss Graham Turner does not expect him back.

“His time looks as though it’s up here and it’s a pity because he is a very experienced player,” said Turner.

“He’s gone back to Sheffield Wednesday and they will have him scanned for a second opinion. It doesn’t look too promising that he will be with us after this weekend, simply because of his back injury.”

The loan deal was seen by Dave Jones as an opportunity for the defender to put his career back on track. He has played four games for Shrewsbury - his first league action of the season.

His setback follows that of the Owls’ first-choice left-back, Reda Johnson, who has been out since September with a foot injury and is expected to be fit in the New Year.

Midfield man David Prutton is back at Hillsborough after his three-month loan spell at Scunthorpe.

He made 15 appearances for the Iron and missed three because of suspension after a sending-off.

Wednesday play Burton away on Monday in the FA Youth Cup, 7pm. Admission is £3 for adults, £1 concessions.
