Murfin leads the way for Cup holders

HOLDERS Sprotbrough booked their place in the third round of the Doncaster Sunday Alliance League First Group Cup with a 5-1 win at Championship side Sportsman Inter Stella.

Jonathan Murfin bagged a brace for the winners with Richard Smith, Paul Toomey and Callum Smith also netting.

Premier Division leaders Athletico Pegler, who had a man sent off in the first half, lost their 100 per cent record after crashing 5-1 at home to second-placed Canal Tavern in the tie of the round. Chris Scott bagged the Pegler consolation with Ross Ebbage (2), Brett Thomas, Darren Fell and Darren Brown netting for last season’s runners-up.

A Dean Daffin hat-trick helped Rhino’s charge to a 6-1 win at Auckley. Kevin Lynch (2) and Daniel Wojcichowski also chipped in with goals.

First Division Armthorpe Albion posted a 7-1 win at Division Three Baileys. FC Gatehouse went through 4-3 on penalties after it had ended 5-5 at Balby Plough.

Hatfield Celtic registered a 3-0 win at Bentley Top Club. Bessacarr received a walkover against Armthorpe Coronation Club.

High-flying Division Two side Campsall beat Championship strugglers Edlington Top Club 3-0.

Division Two leaders Carcroft Village, who went through by the odd goal in nine, were made to work harder than expected by Division Three strugglers FC Ivanhoe. Josh Brace hit a double with Shane Carver, Danny Faulkner and an own goal completing their tally.

Premier Division FC Dunscroft romped to an 8-3 win at lowly Championship side Carpenters Arms. Ryan Hall, Paul Bradley and Luke Brownbridge all bagged a brace with Aaron Ellis and David Jones both chipping in with single strikes.

Unbeaten Division Four leaders Cask Corner beat unbeaten Division One leaders Tank 8-3 after extra-time.

Phil Kenyon led the way with a four-goal haul and there was a brace by Paul Preskey and strikes from Mark Cartledge and Peter Long.

Premier Division Eden Grove (Danny Robinson, Michael Giliga 2, Mick Sibanda) made progress following their 4-2 win over Division Two Cumberland (Craig Atkins, Jack Willis).
