Late drama in the cup

Hemingbrough United Reserves exited the East Riding Qualifying Cup after a 5-3 extra-time defeat to Barmby Moor - but took the plaudits for a battling display against a side four divisions higher.

As expected, the visitors saw much of the ball early on and took the lead from the penalty spot.

But the home side were soon back on level terms when Mikey Brown’s cross was headed home by Adie Wood.

Two quickfire second-half goals seemed to put Barmby through, but again the hosts hit back and two late goals from Ricki Hutton forced extra time.

Barmby then took the lead once more when their striker lobbed over the advancing Alleridge, despite appearing to be in an offside position.

United’s Hutton was denied his hat-trick when his penalty was saved, and Barmby then put the result beyond any doubt when a cross from the left hand side nestled in the bottom corner.
