Frustration for Mills after Lanre “blow”
York City manager Gary Mills has been dealt a further defensive blow after discovering that Lanre Oyebanjo will be out for five weeks - with a fractured skull.
Oyebanjo went down after a clash of heads with Charlie Lee, during York’s 1-1 draw at Gillingham on Saturday.
After receiving treatment for the injury, Oyebanjo returned to the field before suffering bleeding from his ear.
He was then substituted and taken to hospital, where the skull fracture was discovered.
“Obviously Lanre got back in the side on Saturday and the back four were doing extremely well,” York boss Mills, who could now move to sign a replacement before tomorrow’s transfer deadline, said.
“He was having a really good game, doing his job well, and then that happened. It’s another blow.
“It’s another defender down for us and obviously, with a fractured skull, he has got to be careful.
“He played on for quite a while, headed a few balls, but he started getting bleeding from his ear.
“He looked like he was going to collapse - neither of them should have carried on.
“The doctor should have stopped them both going back on.”
Jamie Reed is expected, meanwhile, to complete his move to Kidderminster Harriers after the two clubs agreed a fee for the striker’s services.
York host Morecambe on Saturday, and Mills is confident that, after three successive draws, his side can secure their first win since January 1.
“We’ve got to put a run of wins together to help us climb the table but, if we play like we did against Gillingham, it will come,” he said.
“It was one of our best displays this season for a lot of reasons and, if we can perform like that consistently, we will win two or three games on the bounce.”
