Despite having a hatful of chances to level matters, Cliffe suffered their second league loss of the season with another disappointing display in a York Minster Engineering Division 2 derby at Thorpe, writes Malcolm Bryce.
But as manager Keith Tiplady commented: “It’s converting them that counts.”
The hosts opened the scoring after just eight minutes and a set of Cliffe chances went begging before they equalised through Tom Hogg following an indirect free-kick.
But Thorpe regained the lead and extended it to 3-1 before Hogg headed home a corner with further chances falling to Crowther and Nathan Horner as a series of Cliffe corners came and went.
And with the visitors switching to three up front, they were left vulnerable to the counter and the home side duly sealed the contest with a successful solo run.
Thorpe thus move up to fourth while Cliffe drop to sixth after four games.
