BETTING: Robins is still a cracking bet for the Doncaster job
Despite appearing to rule himself out of the vacant position as manager of Doncaster Rovers yesterday Mark Robins remains odds-on-favourite to take over at the Keepmoat although we have eased him from ¼ to 4/7 after his reportedly shrugging off the ‘speculation.’
We have heard this type of apparent denial before and it would be fair to say we haven’t exactly been knocked over with punters wishing to back other potential candidates to take over from Dean Saunders, although we have had a nibble again for both Paul Dickov (8s from 12) and Steve Lomas (10s from 12) but not the weight of interest as there was with Robins earlier.
Rovers, who lie second in the table on goal difference from Tranmere courtesy of David Cotterill’s late strike against Colchester last weekend, are 7/1 for the League One title ahead of their visit to Stevenage.
The hosts have only won three of their 12 league home games this term and they, like Rovers, have more points on their travels this term.
Stevenage are 7/4 to keep all three points at home with managerless Rovers 17/10 and the draw at 12/5.
I fancy the draw with 1-1 priced at 11/2 and let us hope this turbulent week in the history of Doncaster Rovers ends with at least a point.
Sheffield Wednesday travel to Hull at the weekend for the Sky televised evening kick-off (5.20pm) and are 22/5 to return from the KC Stadium with all three points with the Tigers 7/10 and the draw 29/10.
Dave Jones’ men are 2/1 for the drop with Barnsley (1/5), Bristol City (1/3) and Peterborough (8/11) all odds on to be playing their football in League One next term.
The Owls travel to MK Dons for a 3rd Round FA Cup replay next week and are 19/10 to win in 90 minutes and Even money to qualify for the 4th Round and an away tie with West Brom or QPR in the 4th Round.
Barnsley have a tasty looking Yorkshire derby as Leeds United are the visitors to Oakwell on Saturday with the Whites 11/8, the draw 5/2 and a welcome home win for the Reds 85/40.
Yeovil are the visitors to Bramall Lane and after the Hartlepool debacle you are loath to say the Blades are a good bet but 4/6 at first glance does look a fair price.
Yeovil were in JPT action at Leyton Orient on Tuesday night having disposed of the same opposition 3-0 at Huish Park in the League at the weekend.
The Blades are 4/1 favourites for the Title at BetVictor and 6/5 for promotion and three points against the Glovers on Saturday would certainly help.
Chesterfield entertain Northampton on Saturday and the supporters will be shouting “Cobblers” if they can’t return to winning ways following back-to-back defeats on the road.
The Spireites will join Northampton on 39 points with a win and are 5/4 to do so with the draw and the visitors both 5/2.
Paul Cook’s side are 7/1 for promotion (Northampton 5s) and they must make their home games count if they are to mount a serious promotion challenge.
Rotherham are also at home with a rejuvenated Barnet the visitors to the New York Stadium; the Bees are 6/1 to cause a shock and many Millers fans will be looking forward to seeing Liverpool’s exciting young striker Adam Morgan.
Rotherham are 8/15 for all three points and 5/1 for the title behind Even money favourites Gillingham.
