THE OLD master makes way for the young...

Britain’s best ever homegrown player Tony Hand, of Manchester Phoenix, is pictured behind Sheffield Steeldogs’ Danny Wood...and that symbolised the match at iceSheffield.

Dogs won 8-4 with a display described by coach Andre Payette as “probably our best game of the season.”

His side were 3-0 up after 10 minutes, after goals from Greg Wood, Andrew Hirst and Edgars Bebris. Phoenix narrowed the gap to a single goal and stayed in the game despite markers from Lubomir Korhon, two, and Danny Wood.

The final period saw Dogs penalty killers secure their zone. After killing a 5-on-3, they ventured out to score twice, Bebris and Hirst getting a second goal apiece.

“All three lines were firing and it was good to see the team produce so much offence” said Payette.
