Club turn out in force
A rapidly developing cycling club launched only eight months ago by former Selby High School pupil Ashley Brown turned out in force for a celebration dinner at a posh hotel near Pontefract.
The BBM Revolution Club – already with 250 members – caters for every level of cyclist from beginner to those aspiring towards competitive racing while popular social rides often straddle the Selby district, from which the club also draws.
Also unveiled during the evening was the 2012 line-up of the elite Sportscover-Altura team – which includes Brown and ex-Olympian John Tanner – who compete around the country in major races.
A third string to newly-wed Ashley’s bow, though closely linked with the team and social cycling club, is his Knottingley-based BBM Bikes business selling a range of cycling equipment both from the former police station store and on-line.
The 29-year-old sports all-rounder, who played rugby with Gareth Ellis while at Selby High and is partnered in the business by Rhinos star Rob Burrows, grew up in Hambleton but now lives in Pontefract with new wife Gemma.
And in a further announcement from this ever-expanding set-up, the club has organised the BBM Roller Championships – involving 500-metre racing with a first prize of £300 – at Knottingley High School on Thursday April 5 at 7pm.
It promises to be a great spectacle. Find out more via British Cycling’s website.
