BENTLEY boxer Jamie Hughes is glad that he headed out of Doncaster to pursue his title ambitions.

The light-heavyweight, aged 29, faces Pawel Trebinski at Rotherham’s Magna Centre in his third professional outing this Friday night and wants to make a statement of intent to the division.

Trained by Jamie Kennedy in Rotherham and fighting outside of Doncaster is working well according to the southpaw.

“Travelling that little bit extra every day is really paying dividends for me,” said Hughes.

“Jamie is a very good trainer and he’s proven that by having a stable full of good lads. It’s a shame that Maxi Hughes has bust his hand because he’s a good fighter and is ready to step up.

“I enjoy fighting in Rotherham and they’re getting me out every two months which is what I need at this stage of my career.”

Hughes beat Bessacarr’s James Tucker last time out and says he wants to be considered the best in the town before going on to challenge for domestic titles.

“I tried a little bit too hard to stop James last time out, but I got the win which is the most important thing,” he said.

“I want to end this one early and I’m capable of doing it because I am a big puncher.

“If Luke Crowcroft and his team fancy the fight then I’d be interested. I’ll fight anybody and I’ve already beat James.

“I’ll be ready for six rounds by my fifth fight and that’s when it will get harder but I’ve got to get through that stage if I want to be a champion.”

Denaby Main’s Adam Jones will also fight this weekend. Jones (W2, L2) takes on Neil L. Perkins on the David Price undercard in Liverpool.
