Doncaster’s Jamie McDonnell’s title shot ‘in April’

editorial image

Doncaster’s Jamie McDonnell will have to wait until April for his shot at the IBF world bantamweight title.

The Hatfield-born fighter was hoping to face current IBF champion Leo Santa Cruz early this year after beating Nicaraguan Darwin Zamora in the title eliminator in October.

However, it seems like the 26-year-old will have to wait a little longer after revealing on Twitter he expects to fight the undefeated Mexican ‘sometime in April’.

The venue has also yet to be confirmed, with Myoclonic’s manager Dennis Hobson hoping to stage the big night at Doncaster’s Keepmoat Stadium.

But Hobson has conceded the fight may have to be held at Sheffield’s Motorpoint Arena.

McDonnell is the former Commonwealth and European bantamweight title holder.
