Busy week for Mickey’s top amateurs

IT was a busy week for Mickey’s Amateur Boxing Club as they travelled to Sunderland, Hull and Scunthorpe for shows - with mixed results.

Firstly, representatives from the Selby club travelled to Olympian gym in Sunderland, with eleven-year-old Lennox Tyers and Joe Harrison, aged 16, in tow.

Lennox, enjoying his second bout after stopping his first opponent two weeks ago in Nottingham, came up against Callum Coates.

According to Mickey Bradshaw, head coach and chairman of Mickey’s Amateur Boxing Club, Lennox boxed “very well” to record his second victory.

Joe’s bout was postponed after his opponent weighed in too heavy.

Then on Friday, Kieran Gabel boxed on an East Hull show against home boxer Corey Dimbleby.

And the 12-year-old, who had lost his first two bouts, registered his first victory for the club.

Saturday saw a trip to Scunthorpe, where Cameron Healer, aged 13, faced Jessie J Allcock for the second time.

In their last bout, at a home Selby show, Allcock took the majority decision - and history repeated itself again, with another majority decision in favour of the home man.

Franky Sykes, taking part in his second fight, recorded his second stoppage win against Jahan Wahid.

On Sunday, Nathan Clarkson boxed James Kimberly, of Sandygate, in the National Schools quarter finals.

Although Mickey thought that Nathan had done enough to secure a semi-final place, the decision went in Kimberly’s favour by a 3-2 scoreline.
