Govt backs Grogan campaign

The Government has backed the continuing campaign by Selby MP John Grogan to ensure coverage of major sporting events on live, free-to-air TV.
In answer to a question in Parliament, Culture Secretary Andy Burnham paid tribute to Mr Grogan's work on listed sporting events and his "robust defence" of the need for such a list to ensure free-to-air access to our main national sports.
"I am as committed as he is to that principle, because it is important to balance giving sports access to the widest possible public and getting money into the grassroots," said Mr Burnham.
Mr Grogan is particularly involved in the Keep Cricket Free campaign designed to restore test cricket to the A-list of live terrestrial sporting events.
