Former Selby Community Primary School pupil Gareth Ellis played a starring role in what could have been an historic rugby league win for England in the Gillette Four Nations Final at Elland Road.
For Ellis set up a second try for Sam Burgess with an excellent flat pass that gave England a 16-14 lead after 50 minutes, which put them on the verge of their first tournament victory over Australia since the 1972 World Cup final.
But while pupils from Gareth's former school were glued to the television as they watched their hero perform, the Kangaroos unfortunately ran in four tries in the final 14 minutes to finish with a crushing 46-16 win.
