Canoeists tackle gruelling race

An intrepid five-man team of Selby Round Tablers – including Olympic hopeful Dan Porter – will this weekend be competing in one of the most gruelling canoe endurance challenges around.
A 24-hour endurance race organised by the Macclesfield and District Canoe Club, the Cheshire Ring Race has been running for 25 years and was recently featured in the BBC programme Locks & Quays presented by Matthew Corbett.
The race involves paddling 96 miles around the Cheshire Ring of canals taking in the Macclesfield, Peak Forest, Ashton, Rochdale, Bridgewater and Trent and Mersey canals within 24 hours.
