After last year's successful tour of Ireland, Sherburn Bears this time embarked on an end-of-season tour of Wales, taking in Dyfed Sharks of Cardiff and Bettws of Newport – both rugby union clubs.
With a team that included borrowed Welshmen and even the bus driver, it was always going to be tough against the big Sharks, who ran out 36-24 winners. But Bettws were beaten in their first ever game of rugby league despite adapting to the code at great speed.
