FIRE-FIGHTERS in Snaith and neighbouring Humberside areas have started a ballot over proposed changes within the brigade that could trigger industrial action.
The Fire Brigades' Union this week confirmed the vote won't result in any form of strikes, but wouldn't reveal any other possible action.

The ballot follows a feud over proposed changes within the service, including the introduction of a new 'community fire technician' grade on lower pay, without negotiation or agreement.

A Humberside Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Managers are visiting all of the watches affected and report that many fire-fighters don't feel the issues in dispute warrant industrial action, and just want to continue serving their communities as normal."

But Humberside FBU official Ian Murray countered: "This ballot is taking place because Humberside fire-fighters have demanded it."

The earliest date any action will take place if the vote goes through
is May, which could involve crews from Snaith and neighbouring Goole and Howden.

Chief Fire Officer Frank Duffield said further meetings between management and the FBU were planned to seek a resolution to the dispute.
