SNAITH and Cowick residents will have to dig deep into their pockets after East Riding of Yorkshire Council rubber-stamped a 3.9 per cent tax hike.
The decision means an average Band D home-owner will have to fork out an extra £44.83 for ERYC services during the next 12 months.

Authority leader Coun Stephen Parnaby OBE said: "The council's budget protects essential services and puts money int
o priority areas agreed with our partners and through consultation.

"I personally would have liked a council tax increase of below 3.9 per cent, but the council faces some very challenging financial issues, which are beyond our control."

ERYC set its base budget at £247.1 million to fund frontline services, such as providing care and support for a growing elderly population and vulnerable children.

An additional £10.9 million has been earmarked for adult services during the next three years, while £1 million will be set aside in contingencies for an increase in road and footway maintenance.

Total bills, including police and fire authority rates, are: Band A £955.57; Band B 1114.83; Band C 1274.09; Band D 1433.36; Band E 1751.89; Band F 2070.41; Band G 2388.93; Band H 2866.72. Parish and town precepts will be added to these figures in the coming weeks to reach the final council tax bill totals.
