THOUSANDS of Snaith area residents will soon be able to get NHS dental treatment as a new practice prepares to open.
Snaith Dental Care hopes to be up and running before the end of the year, and will be offering NHS dental work for up to 5,000 patients.
The area, which has been struggling with NHS care for years, is one of three NHS practices to open in the East Riding of Yorkshire as part of a million pound investment.
Bidders were asked to submit tenders to provide care for NHS patients, who currently have to use a mobile service for treatment.
But Snaith Dental Care partner Tony O'Brien believes it will be several months before the practice is operational.
He said: "It's certainly an exciting time for us after all the interviews, but there's going to be a new building and all new equipment so it's going to take some time.
"We think it's fantastic and we cannot wait to get started. I'm well aware of the NHS problems people are having so we just cannot wait to get up and running for the treatment people want."
With 25 years' experience, Snaith Dental Care will offer a full range of NHS treatments, as well as cosmetic surgery.
Snaith and Cowick Mayor Coun Graham Hulme (pictured left ) said: "The council has been concerned for the past three years Snaith hasn't had an NHS dentist.
"On behalf of the town council, I welcome this news that we will get a replacement by autumn this year.
"This news will be formally announced at Monday's full council meeting."
NHS East Riding of Yorkshire chairman Karen Knapton said: "I'm delighted to confirm this major investment in new NHS dental services in three of our local communities with the greatest need.
"Increasing dental capacity in Snaith, Withernsea and Market Weighton has been a priority for us, and we've now appointed experienced contractors to deliver high quality dental services for these areas."
Snaith Dental Care is due to open in the autumn at an undisclosed site.
Anyone wishing to access these new services should contact the NHS East Riding of Yorkshire dental commissioning team on 01482 672077.
