A SNAITH cancer sufferer has organised an evening of dinner and dancing to help raise vital charity cash.
Kevin Megson, currently undergoing treatment for prostate cancer, decided to hold the event at Snaith Sports Hall on September 13 to heighten awareness of the killer disease and boost funds for research.

The 51-year-old father of two (right), who shares his South Parkway home with his wife Sue, said: "I was just 49 when I was diagnosed with prostate cancer which is young. A friend of mine died last August and he was aged 54 or 55.

"It may seem old to a 20-year-old but it is not old when you get to 50. You have a lot of living to do."

He added: "Up to 20,000 people are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year and 10,000 die from it. It is bad news, equally as bad a breast cancer so we need to talk about it and raise awareness."

The charity evening will feature a variety of entertainment including singer Billy Leonard, DJ Chris T from Plough Inn, and table magicians Yan and An.

There will also be an auction, raffle and stand up bingo on the night with prizes and lots including Drax Golf Club membership, T-shirt signed by top golfer Lee Westwood, 22-inch TV and Castleford Sno!zone family ticket.

Tables at the event have been sponsored by local businesses while flowers for the centre pieces have been donated by The Cottage Flower Shop in Snaith and will be arranged by Kevin's mum Ann.

Kevin said: "It has gone well beyond my expectations. I am pleased with the response from local people, particularly the Plough Inn who are one of the main sponsors and have given up their DJ on a Saturday night. If all goes well I'd like to make it an annual event."
