A TEN-YEAR fight to solve parking problems outside a Monk Fryston business could finally be over.
Kevin Pease, who runs Monk Fryston post office at the junction of Main Street and Water Lane, said he would support a proposed parking restriction of up to 20 minutes.

Proposals are being put forward to the North Yorkshire County Council Selby Area committee meeting in Escrick on Monday.

Mr Pease said: "We've had problems with vehicles parking for long periods outside the post office for years.

"We rely on passing trade, and if vehicles can't stop because they can't park, it could significantly affect us.

"The post office is on the recently de-trunked A63, and responsibility for it has passed to NYCC from the Highways Agency. I've asked NYCC to sort this problem out and don't seem to be getting anywhere. It seems nothing has changed."

He added: "I'm in support of a waiting restriction outside and near the post office. This would be very beneficial to my business. The current situation is horrendous."

Selby District Council ward member Coun Carol Mackman said: "Until there's a parking restriction in this area, the police can't move people on or prosecute them.

"Once there's a traffic order in place restricting how long a vehicle can park in the area, things will change. Both me and my husband Coun John Mackman would support a restriction, and also any plans to keep entrances clear for those with properties in the area."
