PLANS to create a £15,000 tranquil reflective garden for South Milford's older residents are well underway.
Award-winning garden designer Jodie Buckley, seen with Playing Fields Committee member Laura Reilly, has drawn up designs for a tranquil but practical recreational area with seating to be located at the end of the village's playing fields close to the Post Office.
And members of the South Milford Playing Fields Committee have already secured £5,000 in landfill tax credits from Eggborough Power Station's EPAC fund, £5,000 from the Big Lottery Fund and £500 from Selby Investment Partnership. They're also hoping to achieve a further £5,000 grant from Waste Recycling Environmental Limited in October.
Laura said: "We want the elderly residents of South Milford to have a recreational space where they can sit and reflect, watch the playing fields or look at views of the village.
"Recreational time comes in many different forms, and with this reflective garden, we can cater for one more of them.
"We now have most of the funding in place and, fingers crossed, by October we will be ready to start clearing the area ready for planting in the Spring."
The garden will also feature borders of lavender and box plants surrounded by a piece of artwork or a garden feature, and Jodie has recommended a planting plan of seasonal bulbs, shrubs and trees to add interest.
Committee members visited local groups and coffee mornings to consult with older villagers before producing the final garden design, which is available to view on The Village People newsletter at the www.southmilford.co.uk website.
