A BRIGHT new future has been predicted for Sherburn High School after a ten-month wait to officially appointment a full-time headteacher ended last week.
Martyn Sibley, who has been with the Garden Lane school as associate head during the ten-month period, spoke of his delight at taking the reins on a permanent basis.
He praised staff and pupils for making his contract period "a delight" with their dedication and commitment, and said he looked forward to taking the school forward for the long haul.
Former Tadcaster Grammar deputy Martyn was appointed associate headteacher following the departure of Graham Steele through ill health.
The 47-year-old said: "I'm delighted to have secured this position.
"During the past ten months, I've found Sherburn High School to be a delight.
"I hoped I would be instated as the permanent headteacher after undergoing a rigorous three-day interview along with five other candidates, but you can never be sure.
"The mission statement for the next 12 months is achievement for all and to increase everyone's potential, both staff and pupils.
"I want this to be the school of choice for parents.
"The school is a great achiever, but I want us to achieve more for students, parents and staff and make this the number one school of choice.
"I'm looking forward to the challenge and continual improvement."
