PARKING at Selby Railway Station could benefit from further improvements as its local campaigners try to unlock a key grant.
Selby Rail Users' Group secretary Reg French said he hoped Section 106 funding from the developers of nearby Staynor Hall homes could soon be released to fund seven additional disabled car parking spaces, as well as extra cycle facilities.

The spa
ces would complement Network Rail plans to use spare land opposite the station for a further 150 car parking spaces it hopes to announce later this month and compete in early 2011.

Mr French said: "Selby is being used more and more by trains and passengers thanks to an increasing number of services, and so extra car parking spaces are greatly needed.

"There are currently only two disabled parking spaces and we hope we can release the funds to create a further seven once current improvements to the station's entrance and ticket office are completed.

"I also understand the Network Rail proposal is now being finalised but we will remain cautious until an official announcement is made."

Users' group members, Network Rail representatives and Selby MP John Grogan will next meet in March to discuss progress, as well as a grant application to the Department of Transport to fund much-needed improvements to platform access for disabled passengers.
