SELBY police welcomed four Polish officers to the force as part of a drive to exchange knowledge and expertise on road safety.
The three-day visit saw cops from Warsaw, Kielce and Busko-Zdroj work alongside TC Grant Gibson and Martin Smith on Operation Anvil patrols across the district.

They also got to grips with Automatic Number Plate Recognition operations on the A1 and in the Selby area.

Selby road policing Insp John Settle said: "This visit has given us a great opportunity to learn from each other and share best practice in road safety and enforcement tactics."

The visit was part of the TISPOL scheme, which connects police forces around Europe and of which North Yorkshire Deputy Chief Constable Adam Briggs is president.

Sub-Commissioner Marcin Sygocki, based in Warsaw, said: "There's many similarities with the problems facing us on our roads, such as motorcycle casualties, seatbelt offences and speeding.

"The visit has given us the chance to share our knowledge and also gain an insight into UK road policing, which we can take back home and share with our colleagues."
