SHE finds the right words to say when you're feeling down, offers the best advice and always thinks about others before herself.
Everybody's mum is special and, here at the Selby Times, it's time to recognise the best in the district. We're asking you to tell us why yours should be crowned Mum of the Year 2010 – and we've got some very special prizes on offer for the wonderful winner.
She doesn't need to have climbed Everest or bungee-jumped off the Eiffel Tower – she could be special to you because of the simple things she does. Maybe she makes you smile or cooks the best Yorkshire puddings in the world! However routine, we want to hear about your mum's achievements.
Last year's winner was mum-in-a-million Margaret Rushforth. The 82-year-old mother-of-five, of Barlby Road, was nominated by daughter Gillian Plowes.
Top mum Margaret, pictured (above) receiving prizes from Sainsbury's Selby store manager Graham Chawner, customer services manager Sylvia Cursley and Margaret's daughter Gillian Plowes, was delighted to hear she had won.
"It's wonderful news no doubt about that and it is really very much appreciated."
Nominating your Mum of the Year couldn't be easier. Simply fill in the coupon printed in this week's Selby Times and send it to: Mum of the Year competition, Selby Times, 74-76 Gowthorpe, Selby YO8 4ET.
Nominations must be received by February 19 2010, and must include a clear colour photo of your mum. We will then publish a shortlist of the best entries, after which readers' votes will decide who wins.
This is a unique chance to show your mum just how much she means to you – surely she deserves to be treated like a queen for one day at least!
And be sure to order your copy of the Selby Times next week for a full list of the special prizes up for grabs.
