KEEPING fit has always mattered to cyclist Frances Darley ... and the Great Selby Bike Ride is the perfect opportunity to reflect the good shape she's in!
Mother-of-three Mrs Darley, 65, of Hull Road in Hemingbrough, said she had always tried to keep herself in trim, but stepped up her training about two years ago after her mum died.

Mrs Darley who trains at the JJB Gym at the Three Lakes Retail Park in Selby, in addition to cycling "everywhere", said she was looking forward to the 45-mile challenge on May 11.

She added: "I did the 25-mile run last year, but I've decided to up the challenge this time. However, if you had rung me ten years ago, I would probably have told you I was doing the London Marathon instead. I suppose I've slowed down a little bit since then!

"I've always tried to keep fit and regularly took the children on bike rides when they were younger, as well as taking them to play tennis and other sports.

"I'm really looking forward to taking part in the bike ride and joining lots more people on the run. I urge others to take up the challenge."

The Selby Times-sponsored event is organised by Selby District Lions.

Entry forms can be picked up from the Selby Times office, Selby Bike Centre and Halifax bank, all in Gowthorpe, as well as Halfords at the Three Lakes Retail Park in Bawtry Road and all other cycle shops in the area.

Money raised will be shared between the British Heart Foundation, Martin House Hospice, St Leonard's Hospice, Arthritis Research Campaign and Selby District Lions' charities.

Bikers can enter the 25 or 45-mile circuits, both starting outside Barlby High School at 10am. Fee for the longer route is £3 for adults, £1.50 for under-16s, while the shorter route costs £2.50 for adults and £1.25 for juniors. Teams of six can enter for £12.
