Internet safety for Carlton students

STUDENTS at Holy Family School in Carlton were advised about staying safe online as part of Safer Internet Day on Tuesday.

Youngsters between the ages of 12 and 15 took part in workshops throughout the day run by Youth Officer PC Andy Patchett and PCSO Karen Rich, of North Yorkshire Police.

Topics covered included posting pictures wisely on social networking sites, privacy settings and who to turn to for help if things go wrong.

The police are also keen to advise parents about safe Internet usage by their children and used material from the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP), which used the day to launch the Parents and Carers Guide to the Internet on the www.thinkyouknow.co.uk/parents website.
