SELBY TIMES-supported Selby Hands of Hope ended 2012 in the same way they started it – by making a huge difference to the lives of local people.
Wendy Singh, founder and chairwoman of SHOH, this week revealed a huge New Year boost for the charity by announcing that they raised a total of £36,000 in the past 12 months.
She said it was a testament to local people who had given so generously throughout the year despite the tough economic climate.
The bumper tally came as a result of various fundraisers and generous donations throughout the past year and the figure now means that SHOH have surpassed £110,000 since their inception back in 2009.
The charity recently carried out yet another selfless act of generosity when they stunned classmates and teachers at Hemingbrough Primary School by donating two iPads and four Kindles to the school.

SHOH sprang the pre-Christmas shock without letting any of the staff know, and the result was a host of smiling faces all-round.
Wendy said: “Hemingbrough is one of the leading schools in the area and the way they integrate children with other needs is brilliant.
“We got some pupils up alongside the teachers and we gave them a gift each.
“When they unwrapped the Kindles and iPads they were just gobsmacked.”
Wendy says that the standard of teaching at the school, where they integrate children from all backgrounds and abilities, was a key reason to donating these gifts.
“I was blown away by the standard of teaching, and very touched by their reaction.
“They had no idea that it was happening and it brought a smile to everyone’s face.”
The giveaway at Hemingbrough school preceded a hugely eventful final few weeks of the year for SHOH. Their annual ‘Hands of Hope Raffle’ took place just two days before Christmas at Sainsbury’s in Selby, whilst last weekend saw a special football match and other social events take place at Thorpe United FC’s ground.
SHOH is now looking forward to a similarly-successful 2013 with a cluster of special events already pencilled in.
