IT was fun for all when Snaith and Cowick Mayor Greta Laughton hosted a charity night to raise cash for this year’s mayor’s charities, the Snaith community playing field association and Help for Heroes.

Around £620 was raised at the event which took place at the Snaith and District Community Sports Hall.

A total of 60 residents attended the event which started off with steak pie and mushy peas followed by apple pie and custard or cream. This was washed down with wine, orange juice, tea or coffee.

The evening’s star turn was Ken Sayner who brought along some new slides of the Snaith area.

Town mayor Greta Laughton said: “I am very pleased the evening went well. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.

“I am very grateful to all who attended and contributed, making this a worthwhile event for these charities.”

East Riding of Yorkshire councillor John Barrett added: “The evening was all very casual and good spirited. Ken Sayner informed me it had taken a month to put this show together. What amazes me is the fact that he always manages to come up with something new about Snaith.

“For example his investigations have shown that at one time there could well have been up to 27 public houses of various sizes in Snaith.

“This demonstrates how Snaith was and still is a popular place for the public to unwind and relax in.

“In addition it seems that some of the old buildings have some very large cellars. Now wouldn’t it be wonderful to open one or two of these up for visitors. What do you think?”
