Topless man drunken shame

A TOPLESS drunken 36-year-old man shouted obscenities at a woman as she walked home in the early hours with friends, a court heard.

Jayson McKay told Selby magistrates that he was “heavily inebriated on sambuca” at the time.

The court was told by Sandra White, prosecuting, that police were called to a disturbance on Scott Road, Selby, at 2.15am on August 24.

She said officers found McKay, who lives on Scott Road, in the street “topless, screaming and shouting in a group of people”.

The group were making their way home after a night out in Selby. A woman among the group was targeted with vile slurs by McKay, the court was told.

Ms White said that police ushered McKay back into his house four times, but he kept coming back out. She said: “The fifth time he went to come back out of the house he was arrested.”

McKay said he could not deny what had happened because he was so drunk. He added: “I fully apologise. I have tried to apologise to the girl it was directed at, but she does not want to know. I am sorry.”

McKay pleaded guilty to using threatening words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress. He was given an 18-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs.
