Time to nominate your unsung stars
DOUBLE the excitement is building as this week Selby Times is proudly launching its Community Pride Awards, in association with Drax Power.
Hosted by Drax Sports and Social Club, the spectacular awards ceremony will take place at the venue on Thursday November 8. It will be hosted by our special guest, BBC Look North’s Clare Frisby.
The Selby Times Community Pride Awards are an annual event set up to recognise and reward inspirational people from across Selby – and this year we’re also incorporating a special section for the SuperKids of Selby.
So, now is the time to get nominating who you think is deserving of one of our awards.
The Community Pride Awards aim to recognise and reward inspirational people from across Selby, while for SuperKids we want to hear all about the district’s most amazing children and teenagers.
There are seven awards up for grabs in Community Pride, and six in SuperKids. There is also an overall award, which is being sponsored by The Read School in Drax.
The seven award categories for Community Pride are as follows: Sporting Hero; Unsung Hero; Champion Citizen (sponsored by Selby District Council); Teacher of the Year (sponsored by Selby College); Environment Award; Community Project; and Volunteer of the Year.
In the SuperKids section, the six awards up for grabs are: Sports Award; Community Award; Bright Future Award (sponsored by The Read School); Young Citizen Award; Support the Family Award; and Special Award (sponsored by the Jug Inn at Chapel Haddlesey).
If you know someone who fits into one or some of these categories then don’t delay, send your nomination in today! The closing date for nominations is Friday October 26 2012.
To nominate, send the name, address, phone number and email address of the person you are nominating along with which Awards scheme and category you are nominating them in. Make sure you include your reasons for nominating that person.
Also include your name, address, telephone number and email address.

Awards night on November 8 at Drax Sports and Social Club gets under way at 6.30pm.
Presentation of the SuperKids awards is from 7pm, followed by dinner and a Selby Hands of Hope raffle/auction at 7.30pm.
A break at 9.15pm will be followed at 9.30pm by the Community Pride Awards presentations.
