A trio of primary schools in our area are toasting success after receiving positive Ofsted reports in recent months.

St Mary’s RC School on Baffam Lane received a ‘good in all areas’ grade late last year.

Receiving the report in December, headteacher Fiona Robertson and the pupils celebrated a pre-Christmas boost that rewarded the hard work done throughout the year.

Riccall Primary School also celebrated success after a visit from the inspectors.

The school received a ‘Good’ grading with the report noting “pupils behave well in lessons and around school” and also that “standards are particularly high in reading and writing.”

The school added that they have already taken steps towards achieving an ‘Outstanding’ status in the coming year.

Last but not least was Athelstan Primary School in Sherburn, who achieved a ‘Good’ grade.

The marking was a move up from the previous year when the school attained a ‘satisfactory’ level.

The report said that “the pupils have made good progress in learning” and that “the headteacher and the governing body have ensured that the quality of teaching and pupils’ progress have improved since the previous inspection.”
