Lucky Rotary Club members in Goole had a glimpse into the life of a newspaper photographer when Goole Courier and Selby Times snapper Tony Saxton presented 25 years as a press photographer.
Through a series of anecdotes outlining his long and varied career, he revealed snippets of his encounters with celebrities he had met.
This included the amusing story of a meeting with magician and former television host Paul (now that’s magic!) Daniels, whom Tony met while the magic man was having a suit fitted at Baird’s menswear in Goole.
He turned to Tony and told him he would charge him £5 for his autograph and he could sell it on line, to which Tony replied it may not be worth that much.
Tony said: “I’ve met many famous people including Prince Charles, Princess Anne, the Duke of Edinburgh and Jimmy Savile.
“I was drafted in at the last moment after the previous speaker cancelled, but I think the talk went very well. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and I’d like to thank them for giving me this opportunity. I’m also a local historian and I’m available to do talks on historical subjects at any time.”
