The latest news from the Selby Times relaunch

Launching a new look Selby Times.

Launching a new look Selby Times.

Welcome to my third blog as Selby Times historic relaunch approaches apace.

Your valued views continue to shape YOUR paper’s March 13 new look and new outlook.

Content is king. Modern Times features many extra value features to prove the point. Repeatedly.

There are many reasons to invest in the best and most comprehensive coverage.

Here’s just four - increased letters section, new news & sport columnists, more community photo spreads and exclusive court reports.

LETTERS: We’re extending the popular letters section to two pages every week and including photos taken by readers.

COLUMNISTS: Each week there will be a new column for you to read by successful author and mum Veronica Clark or young woman about town Kate Mason.

PICTURE SPECIALS: We know you love our community coverage - so we’ve DOUBLED the number of picture pages in your paper!

COURTS: It seems there’s nothing you like us to do more than hold people to account - so the number of court stories in the Times is on the up.

This move marks most dramatic redesign and content change in our 153-year history.

That’s why we still welcome all your feedback, flooding in faster than Ousegate at swollen high tide.

That way we can ensure we get all our many improvements just right in response to your reaction.

Regular readers will have weekly seen examples of our new pages on page 2 of the newspaper.

We also featured pages on this website, inviting you to give your views and vote in a weekly poll.

We have listened. We are listening. We will continue to keep listening. Even beyond relaunch.

That way we can be sure to serve our loyal readership by fine-tuning all alterations in line with your wishes.

Quality counts developing our tried, tested, trusted product that has served generations of families.

And our investment in the future of your paper won’t cost you a penny more in your pocket or purse.

Your 70p goes a long way. It all adds up to top value for money in our continuing commitment to provide the area’s premier print news service.

Now published every Wednesday to ensure you read all your news and views first in our mid-week edition.

And loyal readers can actually save 45% with our ongoing super subscription deal, paying just 38p a week.

The credit deal doesn’t end there. Our popular offer also serves you up a F&Bulous Frankie & Benny’s £15 coupon. Free.

The Times they are a-changing. We invite you to come with us. Help shape your paper’s future. Get involved. Get in touch.

I’d like to say all comments received have been complimentary. I’d like to say so. But they haven’t!

But, where there have been criticisms, they have been constructive. And we have adapted accordingly.

Best bouquets received so far include an un-named submission saying: “If you are having a local newspaper publishing from the centre of town (Selby Times) then you are having an authority coming from your real local community.

“Right by your side and knows exactly how it goes for ordinary people. Governments pay special attention to what is been read, whatever it is.

“70p is not that big deal comparing with the depth of influence so we must encourage and keep it running. Good work for your new look Selby Times”.

That anonymous author wins my weekly half pint of beer or cup of coffee - both dearer than your value-for-money family favourite read.

Brew and buns beckon for all on Friday as Readers Panelists and members of the public are invited to inspect fresh style dummy pages.

Please call in any time at our 74-76 Gowthorpe office on March 1 to be first to digest over cake and cuppa all proposed improvements.

And watch this space for full details on when relaunch road shows roll into town, offering free goody bags packed with promotion pen, book mark, car sticker, balloons, crisps and drink with every copy bought.

Welcome to my first blog as we enter the last weeks of our run up to relaunching the Selby Times.

If you are a regular reader, you will have seen examples of our new pages on page 2 of the newspaper each week.

We have also been featuring pages on the website and asking people to give their views by voting in a weekly poll.

We are listening - we want to know what you would like to see in your local paper as we make changes.

We’re bringing in a smart new design so that your newspaper is packed full of local features, sport and special offers as well as motoring deals, new homes and jobs.

There are also some great new features including columnists and extra pages of letters and reader photos.

The price of your newspaper went up last year but there will be no increase now.

Like so many businesses in today’s economy, we face a battle against growing costs. But, but at 70p - less than the price of a pint of beer or a cup of coffee - we believe that your newspaper represents fantastic value for money.

We are absolutely committed to giving you the best local news service around in print and online while ensuring that we are able to provide quality journalism in our area.

And there’s an opportunity for our loyal readers to save 45% on your newspaper by taking advantage of our great subscription deal, which means you can actually save money on the current price and pay just 38p a week.

Graeme Huston, South Yorkshire Newspapers’ editor in chief, said: “We will never forget that our job is to serve the community we have been part of for so long.

“Times change, and we must change with them, but our commitment to you and your news remains stronger than ever.

“The price of the paper has recently risen but we believe it is still great value. We promise we will always continue to report the issues that matter to you, challenging local authorities and campaigning on your behalf.”

If you would like to get in touch with your views on the paper, or how we can change for the better, please email me at chris.page@selbytimes.co.uk or telephone 01757 702198 or leave a message on our Facebook page. You can also send me a Tweet @STediitor
