Teenage cyclists hit by car
NORTH Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses after two teenage boys were hit by a car near Temple Hirst.
The boys, both local and aged 16, were cycling along Hirst Road, an unclassified road between Temple Hirst and Hirst Courtney, at around 5.15pm last Wednesday when they were struck by a silver Vauxhall Corsa.
The driver of the vehicle, an elderly woman, stopped at the scene of the collision and asked the boys if they were ok before continuing her journey. After making their way home the boys were taken to York Hospital for treatment where one of them was kept in overnight suffering from a broken jaw.
Officers are keen to trace the driver of the Corsa and are urging anyone who was travelling along Hirst Road around the time of the collision to get in touch. Traffic Sergeant John Lumbard, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said: “We need to speak to the driver of the Vauxhall Corsa as a matter of urgency so that we can establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision. Although the woman driving the car stopped briefly at the scene of the incident I urge her to come forward and help us with our inquiries.”
Anyone who can help can help call North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for TC Iain Atkinson or Tadcaster Roads Policing Group. Quote reference number 12130001223.
