Teaching from across the ocean for children

Snaith Primary School pupils welcome the foreign teachers into school, where they will be spending time in Year 6 classes.

TEACHERS from Turkey and Ireland visited Snaith Primary School last week to share their educational expertise as part of a European teaching programme.

Comenius is described as one of the most popular European education programmes for UK schools, colleges and local authorities and last week Turkish teacher Secil Tanriverdt from Bursa and Irish teacher Padraig Regan, from County Kerry, came to share their educational experiences with Snaith teachers.

The project is part of the Lifelong Learning Programme and provides opportunities for schools and colleges to introduce or strengthen the European dimension in their curriculum. The new Comenius Regio partnerships allow local authorities to participate directly.

Years one and two teacher, Marilyn Allen, said: “This was a great visit. The theme for the visit was how to spread laughter, through Comenius, in education. We certainly had plenty of that. Although Padraig and Secil were only here for a few days it was a very enlightening visit and, if we get the chance, we hope to visit them in their countries.

“The children enjoyed teachers from other schools in the classroom and joining them for lessons.”
