Sprucing up village streets
NEWS: News.
A new season of projects to give the streets, highways and back roads of Sherburn a spring clean, was launched on Saturday thanks to Cubs and Scouts led by the village’s community association.
The team of Sherburn Community Association litter pickers met at the village Scout hut in Finkle Hill at 10am and afterwards had bacon sandwiches back at the Finkle Hill base.
One of the volunteers, Alma Hodgson, said: “We normally have up to 15 people helping. It’s great when the community comes together in this way and does a cleaning blitz in the village.”
She added: “This is the first of our cleaning projects and we do them throughout the year up until October. We also have volunteers who help with gardening in the village each Sunday when we plant flowers and maintain the village’s green areas. For this we meet at 10am in Boots Chemist car park in Finkle Hill and work until noon. Anyone can volunteer and they simply come along on the day. At the same time we can tell them about the next litter picking cleaning blitz we will have in the village. A reminder gardening volunteers have a stall at Sherburn Gala on May 18.”
