Speeder panicked about wife
AN EXPERIENCED driver who topped 105mph as he raced home to his ill wife has avoided being banned from the roads, a court heard.
Selby magistrates were told that Mark Boaler panicked and put his foot down after receiving a phone call from his partner, who suffers from an iron deficiency that can cause her to faint.
The court heard that the reason for Boaler’s haste was that his wife was alone with their four-year-old daughter at the time.
Boaler, 40, of Pontefract, was clocked in his Volkswagen Golf on the 70mph-limit A63 at South Milford on June 20 at about 5.55pm while on his way home from work.
In mitigation, the court heard that Boaler worked as a driver and had done since passing his driving test in 1991. It was said he did 20,000 business miles a year. A ban would have meant losing his job, the court heard.
It was also said that Boaler and his wife were financially stretched and that losing a steady income could result in the couple losing their home.
Boaler’s solicitor added: “He is a man of good character. He has learnt his lesson and it will not happen again.”
Magistrates said: “We do not want to put someone out of work, so there will be no ban.” He was given six penalty points and fined a total of £225. His wife said the fine would be paid via Boaler giving up smoking.
